T*I*N*A is an award winning independent art & design studio based in Porto (Portugal), established in 2013 by Elias Marques & Sérgio Correia, both graphic designers and educators.
We question and criticise the established ideals, we rise contemporary issues teasing out society through ephemeral or permanent urban interventions called “This Is Not America”.
Equipped with graphic “weapons”, we occupy spaces with messages and subliminal images, taking advantage of the elements related to the project’s identity, a statement by itself.
Despite an assumed reinterpretation of the American symbology, T*I*N*A’s identity reflects a national critical approach, with the introduction of the traditional cock instead of the American eagle.
The acronym T*I*N*A emphasises that national dimension, remembering the abbreviation of a popular Portuguese name.
It is inspired by the song “This Is Not America” by David Bowie / Pat Metheny, and the movie, “The Falcon and the Snowman” by John Schlesinger, both from 1985.
