The 49th edition of Portugal Fashion, held from October 12th to 16th, 2021, marked a return to in-person events, primarily at Alfândega do Porto. This edition featured 35 fashion shows and presentations from nearly 50 brands and designers, showcasing Spring/Summer 2022 collections from names such as Alexandra Moura, Alves/Gonçalves, and Diogo Miranda.
A significant highlight was the participation of eight African brands and designers under the CANEX (Creative Africa Nexus) programme, promoting the African textile and clothing industry in Portugal. The event also included off-location shows in iconic Porto spots and the BrandUp showroom with around 90 exhibitors.
Embracing digital technologies, Portugal Fashion provided live streaming to a global audience, ensuring broad accessibility. The event opened with young designers from the Bloom platform and African fashion, followed by shows from established designers and brands, including a creative installation by Ernest W. Baker and the “Parading in Safety” collection by Katty Xiomara, raising awareness about road safety.
The final days featured high-profile shows, including Marques’Almeida’s new collection celebrating their 10th anniversary. Portugal Fashion’s 49th edition successfully merged tradition with innovation, local talent with international influences, and physical presence with digital outreach, reaffirming its significance in the global fashion industry.
