The 51st edition of Portugal Fashion, held from October 11th to 15th, 2022, celebrated the Spring/Summer 2023 collections with over 40 fashion shows across nine iconic locations in Porto. This edition emphasized the event’s deep connection with the city, utilizing venues such as the ESAP – Porto Artistic School, Monastery of S. Bento da Vitória, Museum of Natural History and Science of the University of Porto, Alfândega do Porto, Palácio da Bolsa, Oficina do Ferro, Mercado do Bolhão, Soares dos Reis National Museum, and Passeio dos Clérigos.
A highlight of the event was the presence of renowned Spanish designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, whose show underscored the excellence of the “Made in Portugal” label. The event featured collections from 66 designers and brands, including notable names like Alexandra Moura, Alves/Gonçalves, David Catalán, Diogo Miranda, Estelita Mendonça, Fly London, Hugo Costa, Katty Xiomara, Luís Onofre, Maria Gambina, Marques’Almeida, Miguel Vieira, Pé de Chumbo, Pedro Pedro, Sophia Kah, and Susana Bettencourt.
International participation was marked by the CANEX program, which included ten fashion shows from African designers, promoting cultural diversity and international collaboration. The itinerant nature of the shows allowed for interaction with Porto’s urban dynamics, blending fashion with architecture, culture, and cosmopolitanism. Special events, such as the “Chefes no Bolhão” lunch and the official Sanjo X Portugal Fashion party, added to the vibrant atmosphere of the edition.
The event also included an educational component, involving students from ESAD and FAUP, which emphasized experimental processes and practical experiences. This edition of Portugal Fashion showcased the event’s innovative spirit and commitment to promoting both national and international fashion talent, while reinforcing its profound connection to the city of Porto.
